Update frequency
Prices and exchange rates refresh every 5 minutes. Our server caches each response for a short time so pages load quickly; if the data source is briefly unavailable, the last successful prices are shown with a "Last updated" time. If no data is available we show "—" rather than an outdated number.
Price formulas
- Price per gram = spot price per troy ounce ÷ 31.1034768
- Price in another currency = USD price × exchange rate (units of currency per 1 USD)
- Price per unit = price per gram × grams in the unit (for example 1 tola = 11.6638 g, 1 baht = 15.244 g, 1 Hong Kong tael = 37.429 g)
Karat purity maths
Gold value = weight in grams × purity × price per gram of pure gold. We use the hallmark fineness as purity:
- 9k = 375 = 37.5% gold
- 10k = 417 = 41.7% gold
- 14k = 585 = 58.5% gold
- 18k = 750 = 75.0% gold
- 21k = 875 = 87.5% gold
- 22k = 916 = 91.6% gold
- 24k = 999 = 99.9% gold
Example: 10 g of 18k gold contains 10 × 0.75 = 7.5 g of pure gold. If the spot price is $4,000 per ounce, one gram is $4,000 ÷ 31.1035 = $128.60, and the melt value is 7.5 × $128.60 = $964.50.
