How to Use the Silver Price Calculator

    1. 1.Enter the quantity of silver you want to value (grams, ounces, or any other unit shown).
    2. 2.Select the weight unit matching your scale — gram, troy ounce, kilogram, pennyweight, tola, or tael.
    3. 3.Pick your currency — the result updates instantly across 30+ currencies.
    4. 4.Read the melt value — the live raw silver value at today's spot price.

Melt Value vs. What a Dealer Pays

The calculator gives you the melt value — the pure silver content valued at today's live spot price. This is your negotiation baseline, not the final offer.

    Pawn shops

    40–60% of melt

    Local jewelers

    60–80% of melt

    Refiners (bulk)

    85–95% of melt

Always get at least 2–3 quotes. Refiners pay the most but typically require larger quantities (often 1+ oz of pure silver).

    Tips Before Selling Silver

    • •Weigh accurately — use a calibrated jewelry scale (0.01g precision).
    • •Sort by purity — separate 10K, 14K, 18K and 22K items before quoting. Mixed lots get lower offers.
    • •Remove non-silver parts — gemstones, clasps, springs reduce the weight that counts.
    • •Check spot price first — bring this calculator's number with you to the dealer.
    • •Avoid mail-in services with vague pricing — local in-person quotes are typically more transparent.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How is the silver price calculator value computed?

The calculator multiplies your input weight by the live silver spot price (per troy ounce), converted to your selected currency and weight unit. For karat items, the result is then multiplied by the purity factor (e.g. 18K = 75% pure silver). All prices are based on the international London Bullion Market spot price, refreshed every few minutes.

What is a troy ounce vs a regular ounce?

A troy ounce (oz t) equals 31.1035 grams and is the global standard for trading precious metals. A regular avoirdupois ounce equals 28.35 grams. Using the wrong unit gives a ~10% error — our calculator always converts using troy ounces internally.

Is the calculated value what a dealer will pay me?

No. The calculator shows the melt value — the raw metal value at the live spot price. Dealers buy below spot (typically 70–90% of melt value for scrap, depending on quantity and refining costs) and sell above spot. Use the melt value as a baseline when negotiating.

Does the calculator work for jewelry, coins, and bars?

Yes. For jewelry, select the correct karat (10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 24K). For coins and bars, use "Fine (99.9%)" or "24 Karat" — most modern bullion is .999 or .9999 fine. Numismatic coins may carry a premium far above melt value due to rarity.

How often are prices updated in this calculator?

Live silver spot prices and currency exchange rates are refreshed every 5 minutes from international market data. The "LIVE" badge confirms the displayed price is current.
