What is a Gram? Palladium weight, conversions and local use
Definition. The gram is the everyday retail unit for precious metals outside the English-speaking wholesale market. One gram equals 1 grams, or 0.03215 troy ounces, which at today's palladium spot price works out to — MXN.
Where it is used. Jewellers, pawn shops and scrap buyers all quote per gram, and small investment bars start at 1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g, 50 g and 100 g. The unit is the trading standard in Europe, Middle East and most retail markets.
Pricing conventions. Premiums rise sharply as gram size falls: a 1 g bar can cost 20–40% over melt value, while a 100 g bar sits within a few percent of spot. Scrap offers are usually a discount to the gram price by karat. Palladium is almost entirely an industrial metal, so a retail quote in this unit is a conversion from the ounce price rather than a rate you will see posted in a shop.
Good to know. Gram pricing is also how most karat calculations are done: multiply the gram price by the purity fraction (for example 0.750 for 18K).

Buying Palladium in Mexico: local market, taxes and premiums
At the live price shown above per gram, the price you see here is the international XPD spot price converted into Mexican Peso. Physical buyers in Mexico pay that reference plus a premium, and local trading is concentrated around Mexico City and the Banco de México coin programme. Buyers there generally watch the Banco de México reference price and the peso-dollar rate as the day's reference.
Taxes and duties. Silver bullion is widely available because Mexico is the world's largest silver producer, but tax treatment varies by format and seller. Palladium is dominated by industrial buyers, so retail coins and bars are scarce and premiums move sharply with supply news. That is why the shop price of palladium in MXN can sit noticeably above the spot value of the same gram of metal.
How people usually buy. The common routes in Mexico are Banco de México and commercial banks, Casa de Moneda distributors, coin dealers and online dealers. The products most often quoted locally include Centenario 50 pesos, Libertad gold and silver, 1 oz bars.
Local conventions. The 37.5 g Centenario and the Libertad series are the traditional local savings instruments, quoted in pesos per piece. Before you buy, compare the dealer's asking price per gram with the live palladium price above, and check the buy-back spread the same dealer offers — that round-trip cost matters more than a small difference in the headline MXN quote.
