What is a Kilogram? Platinum weight, conversions and local use
Definition. The kilogram bar is the workhorse of the Asian wholesale market and the deliverable size on the Shanghai Gold Exchange. One kilogram equals 1000 grams, or 32.15075 troy ounces, which at today's platinum spot price works out to — RUB.
Where it is used. Refiners, banks and large dealers move metal in 1 kg bars; for silver the standard wholesale unit is a 1 000 oz or 30 kg bar. The unit is the trading standard in wholesale and institutional trade.
Pricing conventions. Kilogram pricing shows the smallest premium of any retail-accessible size, which is why dealers quote it when comparing buy-back offers or valuing an entire holding. Platinum has almost no traditional-unit retail market: it is quoted per ounce or per gram, and this conversion is mainly used for jewellery weighing and industrial stock.
Good to know. A kilogram equals 32.1507 troy ounces — not 32, a difference worth several hundred currency units at today's gold price.

At the live price shown above per kilogram, the price you see here is the international XPT spot price converted into Russian Ruble. Physical buyers in Russia pay that reference plus a premium, and local trading is concentrated around Moscow, through bank bullion desks. Buyers there generally watch the Central Bank of Russia daily metal price in rubles per gram as the day's reference.
Taxes and duties. Silver, platinum and palladium bars are also sold through banks, with Russia a major palladium producer. Platinum is a much smaller market driven by autocatalyst and jewellery demand, so local availability is patchier and dealer spreads wider. That is why the shop price of platinum in RUB can sit noticeably above the spot value of the same kilogram of metal.
How people usually buy. The common routes in Russia are Sberbank and VTB bullion desks, unallocated metal accounts (OMS), coin programmes and refiners. The products most often quoted locally include Georgy Pobedonosets coins, 100 g and 1 kg bars, palladium bars.
Local conventions. Bank unallocated metal accounts are a long-standing local savings format, quoted in rubles per gram. Before you buy, compare the dealer's asking price per kilogram with the live platinum price above, and check the buy-back spread the same dealer offers — that round-trip cost matters more than a small difference in the headline RUB quote.
