What is a Tael (Taiwan)? Platinum weight, conversions and local use
Definition. The Taiwanese tael is 37.5 grams, a metric rounding of the old Chinese tael, and the standard unit in Taiwanese gold shops. Locally it is written 台兩. One tael (taiwan) equals 37.5 grams, or 1.20565 troy ounces, which at today's platinum spot price works out to — IDR.
Where it is used. Bank of Taiwan gold passbooks quote per gram, but jewellery and gift bars — especially at weddings and births — are counted in taels. The unit is the trading standard in Taiwan.
Pricing conventions. Taiwanese shops usually price 9999 gold per tael with a fixed workmanship charge and publish a separate buy-back rate that is a few percent below the selling rate. Platinum has almost no traditional-unit retail market: it is quoted per ounce or per gram, and this conversion is mainly used for jewellery weighing and industrial stock.
Good to know. One Taiwanese tael is divided into ten 錢 (qian) of 3.75 g each, which is the same weight as the Japanese momme and the Korean don.

Buying Platinum in Indonesia: local market, taxes and premiums
At the live price shown above per tael (taiwan), the price you see here is the international XPT spot price converted into Indonesian Rupiah. Physical buyers in Indonesia pay that reference plus a premium, and local trading is concentrated around Jakarta, with ANTAM the dominant refiner brand. Buyers there generally watch the ANTAM daily buyback and sell price per gram as the day's reference.
Taxes and duties. Silver, platinum and palladium are niche, sold mainly through jewellers and taxed as ordinary goods. Platinum is a much smaller market driven by autocatalyst and jewellery demand, so local availability is patchier and dealer spreads wider. That is why the shop price of platinum in IDR can sit noticeably above the spot value of the same tael (taiwan) of metal.
How people usually buy. The common routes in Indonesia are ANTAM Butik Emas outlets, Pegadaian gold savings and pawn, e-commerce gold platforms and jewellers. The products most often quoted locally include ANTAM 1 g to 100 g bars, CertiEye certified bars, gold savings accounts.
Local conventions. Micro-savings in gold from 0.01 g is mainstream through Pegadaian and app platforms, priced in rupiah per gram. Before you buy, compare the dealer's asking price per tael (taiwan) with the live platinum price above, and check the buy-back spread the same dealer offers — that round-trip cost matters more than a small difference in the headline IDR quote.
