What is a Gram? Platinum weight, conversions and local use
Definition. The gram is the everyday retail unit for precious metals outside the English-speaking wholesale market. One gram equals 1 grams, or 0.03215 troy ounces, which at today's platinum spot price works out to — SEK.
Where it is used. Jewellers, pawn shops and scrap buyers all quote per gram, and small investment bars start at 1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g, 50 g and 100 g. The unit is the trading standard in Europe, Middle East and most retail markets.
Pricing conventions. Premiums rise sharply as gram size falls: a 1 g bar can cost 20–40% over melt value, while a 100 g bar sits within a few percent of spot. Scrap offers are usually a discount to the gram price by karat. Platinum has almost no traditional-unit retail market: it is quoted per ounce or per gram, and this conversion is mainly used for jewellery weighing and industrial stock.
Good to know. Gram pricing is also how most karat calculations are done: multiply the gram price by the purity fraction (for example 0.750 for 18K).

Buying Platinum in Sweden: local market, taxes and premiums
At the live price shown above per gram, the price you see here is the international XPT spot price converted into Swedish Krona. Physical buyers in Sweden pay that reference plus a premium, and local trading is concentrated around Stockholm and the Nordic online dealer network. Buyers there generally watch the LBMA price converted at the Riksbank rate as the day's reference.
Taxes and duties. Silver, platinum and palladium carry 25% Swedish VAT, one of the highest rates in Europe, which widens silver premiums sharply. Platinum is a much smaller market driven by autocatalyst and jewellery demand, so local availability is patchier and dealer spreads wider. That is why the shop price of platinum in SEK can sit noticeably above the spot value of the same gram of metal.
How people usually buy. The common routes in Sweden are Liberty Silver and other Nordic dealers, bank safe-deposit plus dealer purchase, online dealers and ETCs on Nasdaq Stockholm. The products most often quoted locally include 1 oz Philharmonic and Krugerrand, 100 g bars, Swedish historical coins.
Local conventions. Nordic buyers often store silver in Estonian or Swiss bonded vaults to avoid paying VAT on delivery. Before you buy, compare the dealer's asking price per gram with the live platinum price above, and check the buy-back spread the same dealer offers — that round-trip cost matters more than a small difference in the headline SEK quote.
